Taylor graduated from Cornell University with a B.A. in Psychology, after which he worked for two years as a post-baccalaureate research assistant at the University of California, Davis, for two years. From there, Taylor moved to Miami to attend graduate school at Florida International University.

Taylor is a big fan of open source software, and is on the maintainer teams of several tools, including NiMARE, Tedana, Nilearn, and BIDS.
